The Grand Ballon
From the top of its 1424 m, the Grand Ballon is the highest point of the Vosges massif. Its summit is accessible on foot in 45 minutes from the parking lot of the Chalet Hotel located on the Route des Crêtes. From up there, a panoramic view is offered to you on the plain of Alsace, the Jura and the Alps.
The Grand Ballon in a few dates:
1887: construction by the Club Vosgien of an inn-refuge at Grand-Ballon.
1915: total destruction of the Hôtel du Grand-Ballon and the Haag farm by German artillery.
1923: inauguration of the Hôtel du Grand-Ballon, as it exists today.
1927: inauguration by President Raymond Poincaré of the monument in memory of the Alpine hunters located at the top.
1997: construction of the Civil Aviation Radar at the top.
In winter as in summer, nature sports enthusiasts will find their happiness between alpine skiing, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing or by browsing the countless marked trails around the Grand Ballon.
