During the Seventh century, Amarinus, the monk, founded a convent in the burg of Doroangus (in the grasslands around the Thur) He became a martyr, then a saint, and left his name to the urban development. Saint-Amarin, the canton’s capital, is, today, a dynamic town with industries, workshops, shops and the canton’s administrative departments. The Basle-Benelux route crosses it.
